The Nursing Foundation of Rhode
Island (NFRI) awarded scholarships to
twenty-two nursing students from area
colleges at a ceremony held on July 23rd
at the College of Nursing at the
University of Rhode Island.
Dean
Mary Sullivan welcomed the students,
Nursing Foundation Trustees, donors
and guests. NFRI Vice President
Jeanne Sherman was joined by
Foundation Trustees and donors in
presenting the scholarship awards. The
scholarships, ranging from $500 to
$1,000, were awarded to students based
on their good academic standing and
demonstrated need.

In addition to the
undergraduate awards, Debra Bento, RN
a University of Rhode Island graduate
student was awarded the Clare Sullivan
Memorial Leadership scholarship to
pursue studies in gerontological
nursing practice
Incorporated in 1992, the Nursing
Foundation of Rhode Island is managed
by a volunteer Board of Trustees. The
non-profit Foundation has awarded 205
nursing scholarships and 19 nursing
research grants since its inception.
