Scholarships

UNDERGRADUATE
ASSOCIATE, BACCALAUREATE, RN TO BSN, AND
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship Amount: Subject to available funding

The scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in a nursing program who demonstrate financial need, have maintained a 3.0 GPA for a registered nurse (RN) program, or a 2.5 GPA for a licensed practical nursing (LPN) program and demonstrate clinical proficiency, enthusiasm, and motivation in their studies of nursing. Preference will be given to full-time students who are Rhode Island residents enrolled in a Rhode Island nursing program.

Application Deadline: June 1st for RN students (this includes RNs pursuing BSN)
April 1st for LPN students

Notification: June for RN students. Students selected for scholarships will be notified of their award by mail or email. Award recipients must respond to the award notification letter by the date stated in the award letter or the scholarship will be forfeited.

May for LPN students. Students selected for scholarships will be notified by mail or email and informed they will need to pass all their 1st semester/term courses with at least a 2.5 GPA.

Presentation: Scholarships for RN students will be presented at a July awards ceremony. LPN scholarship awards will be mailed to students who will be invited to the July awards ceremony.

Distribution: The scholarship recipients will be notified by mail or email. Checks will be written jointly payable to the recipient and the school and must be used for tuition or books.

Application Procedure:

  • The applicant must submit an essay and a cover letter that includes her/his name, address, telephone number, email address, nursing program, and expected date of graduation.
  • The essay is to be a short, two to three paragraphs about the reason(s) why the scholarship is needed to complete the nursing program.
  • The applicant transcript must be included or submitted or sent as soon as possible.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation with one (1) from a nursing faculty member must be mailed or emailed by individuals writing the recommendations, postmarked or emailed by the deadline.

GRADUATE NURSE SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship Amount: Subject to available funding

In memory of Clare Sullivan, RN, BS, MA, the Foundation initiated a Graduate Nurse Scholarship. Eligible applicants for a graduate nurse scholarship are registered nurses who are enrolled in an advanced program in nursing and who have maintained academic honors. Rhode Island residents will be given award priority with preference to students attending Rhode Island higher education institutions.

Application Deadline: June 1st

Notification and Presentation: The Scholarship recipient will be notified by mail in June and the award presented in July.

Application Procedure:

  • The applicant must submit an essay and a cover letter that includes her/his name, address, telephone number, email address, nursing program and expected date of graduation.
  • The essay is to be a short one page that demonstrates the applicant's commitment to nursing, outlines their short term and long term goals related to nursing, and how they plan to use their graduate education to advance the nursing profession or improve health care.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation, one (1) from a nursing faculty member or nursing leader and one (1) preferably from a current or recent employer must be mailed or emailed by individuals making recommendation, postmarked by June 1st or received via email by end of day on June 1st.
